Tieling City Intangible Cultural Heritage - Xifeng Xieyuezhai Manchu Incense
Xifeng County, Liaoning Province, is located in the northeast of Tieling, Liaoning Province. It is named because the river flows westward and is rich in products. Its unique geographical conditions and distinct climate characteristics are rich in more than 70 wild Chinese herbal medicines such as mugwort, perilla, vanilla, ginseng, etc. As the main component of Shengjing enclosure, Xifeng is most famous for its deer, and sika deer is a treasure of Chinese precious medicinal materials.
Xifeng Xieyuezhai Manchu Incense was originally prepared by the female relatives of the officers and soldiers stationed in the enclosure to collect various mugwort Chinese medicines to drive away insects and snakes. Later, it gradually evolved into a variety of fragrances such as calming the mind, rejuvenating the eyes, and clearing the heart. Xifeng Manchu incense is mainly made of wormwood, with flowers, grass and wood as raw materials, supplemented by authentic ginseng and other precious medicinal materials. After more than 300 years of inheritance, Xifeng Manchu incense has become more pure, soft and refreshing, becoming a special cultural brand. The inheritance custom of "passing on to daughters but not to sons" between "mother-in-law and daughter-in-law", "mother and daughter", and "aunt and niece" is still preserved. Aromatherapy was the main means of treating and preventing diseases in ancient China. Xieyuezhai Manchu incense was once a royal tribute and was exclusively used by royal nobles. Now it has been continuously excavated and improved by contemporary inheritors and has become a beautiful business card for Xifeng's foreign exchanges.
